Aims

The aims of this module are:

  • To reinforce information technology and project management skills acquired during semester 1.
  • To use a selection of coursework assignments posed as information technology projects with both individual and group work elements as a vehicle for consolidating these skills.
  • To help prepare students for larger project work they may encounter in the work place and during their MSc dissertation over the summer.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student should:

  • Have furthered their information technology skills and understanding of project management through practical project work with both group and individual elements.
  • Have gained a working knowledge of participating in information technology projects involving self-study, and research.
  • Have gained experience in communicating project progress and outcomes to others.
  • Have furthered their ability to reflect critically on achievements.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to project management process.
  • Requirements elicitation, project outline, specification and planning.
  • Design, implementation, and documentation.
  • Final reporting and critical reflection.

Compulsory Elements

This module has the following compulsory elements in addition to those common to all modules:

  • attend and participate in at least 70% of all weekly sessions
