International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute (IELLI) for Undergraduates
IELLI (the International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute), formerly CEED, helps students develop the skills they need for their academic studies and beyond. We do this in a number of ways:
We offer Maths & Stats guides online, and offer a 1:1 service in our Learning and Writing Centre where we have academic English and study skills appointments open to all students.
IELLI delivers workshops in the Saints Professional Development programme, which is open to any student. We have everything from communication and engagement to leadership, critical thinking, and digital skills. For award there is the Saints Skills Builder Award, in collaboration with the Careers centre.
We help you develop your IT skills: IELLI runs a programme of IT workshops for undergraduate students, including sessions on digital wellbeing, using apps to help you learn, and curating digital content. You also have the opportunity to self-study and sit exams for a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certificate which is a globally recognised IT qualification. Taking part in MOS is free of charge for students at St Andrews; something that’s not normally the case in other Universities.
For more information on any of these initiatives, please visit the IELLI webpages.
Academic Skills
Many Schools (including Computer Science) take part in IELLI’s Academic Skills Project. The Academic Skills Project provides subject specific training in academic skills. The programme is run by Computer Science PhD students and will include topics such as academic writing skills, experimental design, and an overview of abstraction in CS. All sessions will be run on the ‘Academic Skills Project - Computer Science’ Microsoft Teams. You can join using this link to get more information. If you have any questions, please email asp-compsci@st-andrews.ac.uk.
